Configure Device Data Reporting in RobustLink

Data Management lets you adjust how often a device captures status data and uploads it to RCMS. Use it to balance the detail needed for monitoring against network data usage. The settings are applied to the selected device through RobustLink.

Important: Changes to reporting settings affect mobile data usage. Review the requirements and data allowance for your deployment before changing them.

Understand the settings

  • Dynamic Report Capture controls how often the device collects status data.
  • Dynamic Report Upload controls how often collected data is sent to RCMS.
  • KeepAlive controls how frequently the device checks in with RCMS.
  • GPS Reporting Settings and GPS Distance Threshold are separate GPS-related settings. Review them only if you need to change GPS reporting for the device.

For example, capturing data every minute and uploading it every 60 minutes collects data more frequently than it is sent. Choose intervals appropriate for your monitoring and data plan.

Change reporting settings

  1. Sign in to the appropriate RCMS company account. Ensure the device is online and you have permission to perform remote actions.
  2. In RobustLink, select View All Devices and open the target device by selecting its serial number.
  3. Open Remote Actions, then select Data Management.
  4. Review the current values and choose the capture and upload intervals you need. Adjust other settings only when appropriate for your deployment.
  5. Select Save to send the settings.

The example shows a device capturing every minute and uploading every 60 minutes. GPS Reporting Settings is set to On GPS co-ordinate change. Select settings appropriate for your deployment.

Check the result

Review the action status in Remote Actions and reopen Data Management to check the reported settings. If the change fails, check that the device is online and that its RCMS app is up to date.
