View and Export Device System Logs in RobustLink

System logs record device events that can help you investigate connection or operational problems. In RobustLink, you can view and export real-time logs or generate a historical log for a device.

Before you begin

  • Sign in to RCMS, select your company and open RobustLink.
  • The device must be added to your account and have a supported RCMS App installed and running. To generate historical logs, the device needs the latest RCMS App version; the Historical Syslog prompt provides the minimum versions by device.

Open the Syslog page

  1. Select Devices > View All Devices and find the device.
  2. Click its serial number to open the device page, then select Syslog.

Current Syslog controls for real-time logging, export and historical logs

The example shows an online R1510 with Real-time Syslog switched off, Debug selected for Level and Manual Refresh selected for Refresh.

View and export real-time logs

  1. Turn on Real-time Syslog to view logs collected from the device. The device continues sending syslog data to RCMS until you turn it off.
  2. Use the Level and Refresh controls as needed when reviewing the messages.
  3. Select Export to save the displayed logs locally.
  4. When you have finished, turn off Real-time Syslog to reduce data use.

Generate a historical log

  1. On the Syslog tab, select Historical Syslog.
  2. Review the prompt and select Generate.
  3. Select the download icon at the top of RCMS to check progress and download the generated file.

Historical Syslog confirmation showing data use, download deadline and Generate button

The confirmation shows the data usage and download deadline before you generate the file.

Note: Generating a historical log uses additional data. Download the generated file promptly; the confirmation window states that the file expires at 00:05 UTC. Logs may contain sensitive operational information, so store and share them securely.
