Copy a Zero Touch Template | RCMS

Copy and Update a Zero Touch Template

Copy a Zero Touch template when you want to build on an existing device setup while changing its firmware, apps or configuration. The copy becomes a separate template, so you can prepare a revised setup for a device series without replacing the original.

For example, you can copy an R1520 template, select a different firmware version and save the result under a new name. Saving the copy does not apply it to any devices.

Before you begin

  • Sign in to the RCMS company account that contains the template and ensure you have permission to manage templates.
  • Check the target devices' operating system and series, and prepare any firmware, apps or configuration files you want to use.

Copy the template

  1. In RobustLink, open Zero Touch and select the Create Template tab.
  2. Open the template you want to use and select Copy as New.
  3. Enter a name for the copy. Review the device operating system and series, then change the firmware, apps, configuration, logo or description as needed.
  4. Check that the template contains at least one firmware, app or configuration component, and select Save.

Open a template to review its device series and components. In the example below, the R1520 template contains a firmware package and an RCMS app; select Copy as New to prepare a separate template. Choose packages appropriate for your own devices.

Example: a separate R1520 template with a firmware package selected.

In this example, Template Name identifies the new copy, DeviceOS and Device Series identify the target platform, and Device Firmware selects the package. Device Apps and Device Configuration are empty because this example only uses firmware. The optional Description records the template's purpose. Select versions and components appropriate for your devices.

Important: Using a template to downgrade apps increases the risk of a timeout or failure. Check the target devices and selected versions before deployment.

Review and apply the copy

Find the new template on the Create Template tab and review its contents. To deploy it, follow Apply a Zero Touch Template to Devices. Check the selected devices, per-device parameters and update time before applying.

Edit an existing template

To change a template's logo or description, open it and select Edit. To change its firmware, apps or configuration files, use Copy as New and save the changes as a separate template.
