In RCMS Edge2Cloud, a point table groups the data points and connection details you want to use with a gateway. Create a table to organise those points in one place before forwarding it to a gateway.
Before you begin
Sign in to RCMS, select your company and open RobustLink.
For a Modbus point table, gather the connection and register details from the connected device's documentation.
Create the point table
In the left menu, select Edge2Cloud, then open the Point Table Tool tab.
Click Create Point Table and enter a point table name. Use letters, digits and underscores only; the name cannot begin with a digit. For example, enter Temperature_Monitoring.
To import points, download the Excel point table template from the form, complete it with the device's actual point details, and select the file under Import Excel Point Table. Alternatively, use Add Item to add point entries in the form.
For each point, enter the values that apply to your device, including its connection details, function code, register address and data type.
Review the entries and click Save.
Example Modbus TCP point table. Replace the example connection and register values with those for your device.
In the form, Southbound Protocol identifies the protocol used to communicate with the connected device; the form shown here uses Modbus. You can also add a description and select a logo for the table.
For example, use Temp as a tag for a temperature reading. The example uses TCP, the documentation-only address 192.0.2.10, and port 502. The slave ID is 1, function code is 3, register address is 0, and data type is INT-16. These values illustrate the fields only: use the connection and register details supplied by your connected device's manufacturer.
Review your table
Open the saved point table card to review its entries. You can edit point entries in the details page or export the table as an Excel or JSON file.
Note: Creating a point table saves it in RCMS. Forwarding it to a gateway is a separate action. Check your point values and target device before applying a table. See Forward an Edge2Cloud Point Table to a Gateway.
