Create a RobustVPN Group in RCMS Cloud

Create a RobustVPN Group

RobustVPN provides VPN connectivity for remotely accessing Robustel devices. A VPN group brings devices and users together for VPN access and management. Create a group to organise the devices that should use the same VPN group settings.

Before you begin

  • Sign in to the RCMS Cloud company account that contains the devices and users you want to assign.
  • Connect the devices to RCMS Cloud. See Connect a RobustOS Router to RCMS Cloud.
  • Determine the VPN region, encryption method and whether access to pushed device subnets is required.

Create a VPN group

  1. Select RobustVPN and open Manage VPN Groups.
  2. Select Create. Enter a Group Name.
  3. Choose the Encryption Methods and VPN Region. Confirm the region before saving: it cannot be changed after the group is created.
  4. Choose the Group Type: Virtual IP only uses a VPN tunnel without pushed subnets; Virtual IP + pushed Subnet uses a tunnel with pushed subnets.
  5. Select Next. Use Assign Devices and Assign Users to select the devices and users for the group, then select Save.

Example: enter a group name and choose the encryption method, region and group type.

In this example, the group name is London_VPN, the encryption method is AES 256, the VPN region is Europe, and the group type is Virtual IP only. Choose settings that suit your deployment.

In Assign Devices, search for and select the gateways to include in the group. The example below selects an R1520. Select Assign Users to choose the users who need access, then select Save.

Under Assign Users, search for a user by name or account and select the checkbox for each user who needs access. The example selects one user with the Operator role.

Check and start the group

Open the group card and check its information and assigned devices. If initialization has not succeeded, select Initialize and wait for success. If the group is stopped, select Start to start it. The VPN group must be started and its VPN server running for connections.

On the group’s Users tab, check that the expected users are listed and review their Initialization Status. A Success status indicates that initialization completed; the VPN status and Connect VPN control show the connection state separately.

Devices in Ungrouped must be moved into a VPN group before they can connect to a VPN.
