Create a Role and Set Permissions in RCMS

A role determines which RCMS pages and functions a user can access. Create a custom role when a team needs a specific set of permissions; for example, a monitoring team may need to view devices without changing their configuration. You can then assign the role when inviting a user.

Before you begin: Sign in to the correct company account with permission to manage roles. Decide which functions the users need.

Create a role

In Account Settings > Roles, the list shows built-in roles such as Admin(Default) and Read-Only(Default). Select CREATE to add a role for your team.

Open Roles from Account Settings to view existing roles or create a new one.
  1. Open the account menu and select Roles.
  2. Select CREATE.
  3. Enter a unique Role Name and choose a Role Type. The type determines which permissions can be assigned.
  4. Optionally add a Description to explain the role’s purpose, then select SAVE.

For example, a role called Site Monitor can use the Read-Only type and a description such as Monitor device status. Choose a type and permissions appropriate for your own team.

Set the role’s permissions

  1. Find the custom role in Roles and select the gear-shaped Role action in the Action column.
  2. Select a module, such as RobustLink or RobustVPN.
  3. Expand the relevant functions and select the permissions the role needs. Grant only the access needed for the user’s work.
  4. Review the selections and select SAVE before moving to another module.

The example below shows the built-in Read-Only(Default) role in the RobustLink module. Its greyed-out permissions are displayed for reference; use the custom role’s permission page to select the permissions you need.

Assign the role

When inviting a user, select the role under Role Name. See Invite a User to an RCMS Company Account. Each user has one role.
