A Passenger WiFi portal template defines the welcome page guests see when they connect to your Wi-Fi network. In RCMS, you can configure the page content and select the routers that will use it. For example, a transport operator can present a welcome message and terms to passengers before they access the internet.
For an overview of the components and prerequisites, see Get Started with Captive Portal in RCMS.
Before you begin
- Sign in to the RCMS company account that contains the devices.
- Prepare a compatible Wi-Fi-enabled router with the RCMS Portal App, an RCMS connection and a Captive Portal PRO licence. See Configure a RobustOS Router for RCMS Captive Portal.
- Prepare the welcome text, terms and conditions document and any logo or background images you want to use.
Create and preview the template
- In RobustLink, open Passenger WiFi > Portal Manager and select Create Portal Template.
- Enter a Template Name that helps you identify the portal. For example, use Acme Guest WiFi.
- Set the portal language and authentication mode using the available options. Add a logo or background image if needed.
- Enter the Title Text and Introduction Text shown to guests. For example, use Welcome to Acme Guest WiFi and Enjoy complimentary WiFi on your journey.
- Enter the terms and connect button text as needed, and upload the Terms & Conditions document.
- Enter the Wi-Fi SSID and configure Allowed Sites and the Redirection URL for your service. Use your own network name and destination addresses.
- Select PREVIEW to check the page guests will see. Review the text, images and terms, then select NEXT.
Allowed Sites are sites guests may access before completing the portal flow. The Redirection URL is the page they are sent to after completing it. Choose destinations appropriate for your service.
Select devices and save
- Choose Select from Device List and select the routers that should use the template. Alternatively, use Upload Device List and follow the provided spreadsheet template to import the devices.
- Review the selected devices and select SAVE.
- Return to Portal Manager and open the template to review its settings and device list.
To send a template to devices and check the update result, follow Update a Passenger WiFi Portal Template in RCMS. After the update, connect a test device to the guest Wi-Fi and check that the portal appears and the guest can complete the flow.
