Create a Device Group in RobustLink

Create a Device Group in RobustLink

Create a device group in RobustLink to organise devices and manage them together in RCMS Cloud. This guide covers creating a group and assigning devices to it.

What is a device group?

A device group brings related devices together in one place. For example, you can create separate groups for different sites or projects so that each set of devices is easier to find and manage.

From a group's page, you can see its devices and their online or offline status, and perform supported management tasks on one or more devices, such as installing or updating firmware and apps, applying configuration files, and setting alerts. You can also assign users to a group.

Important: Devices in Ungrouped must be moved into a device group before remote changes can be made.

Before you begin

Create a device group

  1. Open RobustLink and select Device Groups.
  2. Select Create.
  3. Enter a group name and select the device operating system category: RobustOS/RobustOS PRO or NON RobustOS.
  4. Use Assign Device to select the devices for the group. If needed, use Assign Users to assign users.
  5. Select OK to save the group.
Create Group form with London Site example and a selected R1511 device
Example: the London_Site group uses RobustOS/RobustOS PRO and has one R1511 selected.

The example searches for R1511 and selects one registered device. Choose the group name and devices that match your deployment; use Assign Users if users need group access.

Check the group

  1. In Device Groups, find the group you created and select the device count on its card.
  2. Check that the expected devices are listed in the group. The group view also shows the number of online and offline devices.

Add devices later

  1. Open the group and select Add in the device view.
  2. Search for a device by name or serial number, select its checkbox, and select ADD.

Example: select an R1520 device to add to the group.

Online shows the device connection state; Status shows its registration state. The search field helps you find the device before selecting it.
